WORK SCHEDULE Full-time Days; 100% FTE Monday-Friday DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Digestive Health Center at UW Medical Center - Montlake offers a full range of consultations and procedures for the care of digestive disorders and problems of the gastrointestinal system. Conditions treated include abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease, swallowing disorders, celiac disease, nutrition disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis, disorders of the pancreas and bile ducts, and functional gastrointestinal and motility disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome. The Digestive Health Center also offers screening services for prevention and early diagnosis of gastrointestinal cancers. This includes colorectal cancer screening procedures such as colonoscopy and surveillance of other precancerous conditions such as Barretts esophagus or intestinal metaplasia of the stomach. RESPONSIBILTIES Uses ability to triage medical information in a specific medical or surgical specialty Requests interpreters as appropriate for appointments, admissions, and surgery.Patient Intake/Insurance: Answer the telephone in a professional and courteous manner and directs calls appropriately Responsible for reviewing registration data such as demographic, insurance, referral, next of kin etc., and updating online or providing information to appropriate personnel so that an update may be done May provide clinic charges for visit types, procedures, and surgeries to patients or prospective patients to the clinic Contacts review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met before patients enter the system such as pre-authorization and referrals; present necessary medical information such as history, diagnosis, prognosis, and length of stay prior to admissions; provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physiciansCoordination: Acts as a liaison between patients, consulting physician, referring physician or outside agency to coordinate patient appointments, admission, or surgery. Will coordinate the exchange of information either written or verbal before and after patients are seen Obtains all necessary medical records, diagnostic studies, pathology items, etc. that are needed for patient care Coordinates the patients entry into the system to include the availability of necessary medical records, coordination of tests, procedures and appointments with all hospital departmentsScheduling: Clinic: Schedule patient appointments by following the appropriate guidelines by clinic, department and physician Coordinates the direct transfer of patients from outside hospitals to UWMC with physicians, medical staff and admitting through the Patient Flow supervisor. Responsible to communicate any cancellations or changes to Admitting, Financial Clearance Center, UWP, Financial Counseling and medical staffScheduling: Surgery: Acts as liaison between patient, physicians, OR, nurses, other clinics, nursing units, admitting, Financial Counseling, blood bank, lab, Radiology, OT, PT, Prosthetics, etc. for the purpose of coordinating all pre-op planning and preparation Schedules and communicates pre-op planning and preparation to patient. Responsible for sending appointment and other relevant information to patients. Responsible for requesting necessary surgical equipment, tools, supplies, devices, and implants (will supply necessary info for custom implants) Manages OR block time. Releases block time and requests elective OR time through the Surgical Services Website Responsible for scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling surgeries on ESI scheduling system.
