Overview
The Assignment We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to take on an interim Head of Media Relations role during a period of transition. This assignment requires a confident, steady leader who can ensure continuity, provide clear direction, and support the ongoing development of a high-performing international team. The Media Relations function plays a critical role in shaping and protecting the organisation’s reputation across markets. The team is responsible for defining and coordinating the overall media relations strategy, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery that supports broader business and communication objectives. You will lead a mature, independent, and professional team, maintaining momentum while guiding the organisation through change.
Role Context & Challenges As Head of Media Relations, you will set the strategic direction for the Group Media Relations portfolio. A key part of the assignment is to support the introduction of refined ways of working, strengthen cross-functional collaboration, and ensure strong alignment with overall communication strategies. You will lead and develop a distributed, international team of approximately 35 experienced professionals across multiple countries. The role requires balancing strategic leadership with operational oversight, ensuring engagement, cohesion, and high performance in a complex environment.
Responsibilities
Provide clear, confident, and forward-looking leadership to a senior, international Media Relations team, ensuring stability, direction, and a constructive team climate.
Guide the team in adopting new or improved ways of working, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and alignment with the Communications organisation’s development.
Strengthen collaboration across Communications functions, enabling seamless cooperation and shared priorities.
Ensure consistent quality and alignment in how Media Relations supports overall communication objectives across markets.
Coach, support, and develop team members, fostering empowerment, capability building, and engagement.
Drive operational planning, including resourcing, prioritization, goal setting, and follow-up.
Manage internal and external interfaces, ensuring effective coordination with key stakeholders and senior management.
Actively contribute as a member of the Communications management team, supporting shared leadership, alignment, and functional development.
Qualifications & Experience
You bring a strong combination of senior leadership capability and communications expertise, with the ability to lead experienced teams and navigate complexity during periods of change. We are looking for someone who has:
Extensive leadership experience (typically 15+ years) from large, complex, international organisations.
Proven ability to lead senior teams, build trust, and drive performance in high-stakes environments.
A solid background in communications, ideally including media relations, corporate communications, or strategic content leadership.
Demonstrated experience leading organisations through change, implementing new ways of working, and strengthening cross-functional collaboration.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with confidence engaging senior leaders and executives.
