Your role

We are seeking an experienced research and development manager to lead Saab Barracudas’ research and development team of approximately 10 engineers with the plan to increase to approximately 15 the coming two years. This role requires deep expertise in chemistry and materials science, combined with strong leadership and the ability to define and execute a clear, result-driven development and research roadmap from gathering and prioritizing ideas and concepts all the way through deployment of usable capabilities and sometimes finished products.

The successful candidate will oversee multidisciplinary research and development activities, translate operational requirements into viable capabilities and products, and ensure that all research and development activities meet strict performance and durability targets, as well as regulatory standards and our high set sustainability targets.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage research and development programs focused on advanced camouflage and decoy materials and systems,
• Define, and deliver according to, a structured development roadmap aligned with operational, technical, and business objectives,
• Drive innovation in, among other things, chemical formulations, coatings, pigments, polymers, and textile treatments,
• Oversee laboratory testing, field trials, validation, and continuous improvement cycles,
• Collaborate closely with production, quality, procurement, and external stakeholders,
• Ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and applicable regulations,
• Manage research and development budgets, timelines, risks, and technical documentation,
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team,
• Build a network of relations within Saab, universities, FOI and other relevant organizations to secure that we gather the best possible insights and knowledge.

Your profile Required Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field,
• More than 10 years of experience in R&D, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role, and substantial management team experience,
• Thorough experience of management team Tjänst, leading small or middle size companies.
• Strong background in chemical formulation, material development, and applied research,
• Proven ability to create and execute successful product development roadmaps,
• Experience working with defense, military, or high-reliability industrial products is desirable,
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills,
• Excellent communication skills, both in English and Swedish, including technical reporting and stakeholder presentations.

This Tjänst requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations around/of security protection. For Tjänsts requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
