Permanent* / Part-time (24 hrs. per week)

Location: The successful candidate may be based in a country where one of the independent National/Regional Greenpeace organisations (NROs) is located. See the locations here. Greenpeace Internationals Programme Department is looking for a Media Librarian to play a key role in curating and optimising Greenpeaces visual resources to inspire and engage the public, international media, partner organisations and our supporters, and to support the global Greenpeace network in delivering impactful campaigns with high-quality visual content, engaging millions to campaign alongside us for a greener future. In this role, you will ensure Greenpeaces visual content is consistent with our values and meets all legal and technical standards, ensuring that Greenpeace International remains a trusted and creative provider of photo and video news and features.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage and develop an online media library for global use, ensuring it supports Greenpeaces mission.

  • Manage client and creator databases, providing secure and appropriate access for internal and external users.

  • Collaborate with developers to improve and maximise the media librarys functions and user experience.

  • Contribute to the creation of technical documentation and video tutorials, and provide individual and group training on library use, ensuring Greenpeace teams can search, manage, and distribute content.

  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, best practices, and community engagement within the global Greenpeace visuals network.

  • Catalogue visual content for international campaigns, events, and National Regional offices, and ensure quality control, accuracy, and consistency.

  • Curate, edit and rank photos and videos to elevate the visibility of key stories.

  • Collaborate with the legal team to ensure compliance with copyright laws, GDPR, Greenpeaces values and ethical protocols, and other legal requirements.

  • Oversee licensing, copyright management, and royalty collection, negotiating agreements with external clients and third-party agencies.

  • Manage photo and video requests from Greenpeace teams and external partners, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality content.

  • Maintain Greenpeaces historic physical archives, providing access to all stakeholders and supporting digitisation efforts, making past campaigns and media accessible for future use.

  • Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Experience in library database management.

  • Knowledge of photo and video archiving systems.Expertise in editorial decision-making, with a strong eye for selecting high-quality images.

  • Knowledge of international copyright laws, licensing agreements, and related processes.

  • Familiarity with legal compliance processes, including GDPR and other regulations.

  • Ability to provide technical training and documentation for diverse teams.

  • Technical writing and presentation skills.

  • Fluent written and spoken English, with exceptional communication skills.

  • Digital literacy skills; the ability to learn and utilise our digital platforms to successfully perform the role function (familiarity with G-Suite, Slack and Zoom is an advantage)

  • Experience in working with media and social media platforms.

  • Experience in archive management and digitisation of historical media, including slides, negatives, film and video.

  • A commitment to Greenpeaces principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and the ability to embody these principles in communication and collaboration.

  • Experience working with multicultural teams and across multiple time zones.

  • Demonstrable support for and belief in the Greenpeace network core aims and values.
